Vintage Chicago Cubs Programs Designed by Otis Shepard
We’re celebrating baseball Opening Day here at Newmanology by displaying some amazing vintage Cubs baseball scorecards, from the 1940s-60s. The covers were designed and illustrated by Otis Shepard, who is well-known for the advertising posters and billboards he created as the longtime art director of Wrigley’s Gum (the Cubs were owned at the time by Wrigley’s). The scorecards are via Cubs By the Numbers, a brilliant and obsessive Chicago Cubs website packed with archival goodies.
For more information on Otis Shepard (and his equally-talented wife Dorothy), check out the book Dorothy and Otis: Designing the American Dream, by Norman Hathaway and Dan Nadel.
